The Sci-Fi Channel cable network is a shortened version of the named "The Science Fiction Channel", and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of NBC -- the National Broadcasting Company. It officially changed its name to Syfy in March 2009.
The network broadcasts original and acquired programming and movies in the science fiction, fantasy, horror, and superhero genres, and nonfiction programming related to news and fandoms of them. The network created and broadcast the miniseries versions of both Dune in 2000 and the follow-up Children of Dune in 2000.
