Nudune This article or section refers to elements from Expanded Dune
There are separate pages for this subject as it appears in the other canons, the reasons for this are explained here

Marty is an entity that appears in Duncan Idaho's visions, when the no-ship, the Ithaca, was being chased and trying to be encaptured by Daniel and Marty. Marty appears as a homely, elderly woman alongside her long-time male companion, Daniel.

Marty was a human guise worn by the reborn Thinking Machine Independent Robot, Erasmus. Throughout the centuries, Erasmus, and the Thinking Machine ruler, the reborn Omnius, had been absorbing personalities they have acquired from Enhanced Face Dancers.

It is this simple form of a non-threatening, human female, that Erasmus had chosen to communicate with many of his minions, and other humans, during the advent of Kralizec. The Face Dancer Myriad leader, Khrone, servant of the Machines, during this time could never quite understant why Erasmus would want to wear such a weak persona, when he was one of the most powerful entities in the Known Universe. This was the persona that the flow-metal machine decided to cease function and die in, after Idaho became the Ultimate Kwisatz Haderach.

Behind the ScenesEdit

As the late Frank Herbert died in 1986, soon after the introduction of the characters of Daniel and Marty in Chapterhouse:Dune, other speculation has arisen as to other interpretations of whom the charatcers could have been.

Metaphors for Frank Herbert and Beverly HerbertEdit

It was stated before by Brian Herbert[1] that the characters Daniel and Marty created by Frank Herbert could be a metaphor for how he and Beverly Herbert had been watching the events in the Dune Universe unfold.

Independent Face Dancer TheoryEdit

By the statements made by Marty and Daniel at the end of Chapterhouse: Dune, some have said that may have been Independent Face Dancers.[2]

  1. "BH: Well, I'll just add one more element to that, that they both loved to work in the garden. And I guess you could say that their stories were ... were the plants and flowers that they were nurturing, but ... I think that my Dad, when he created characters, he always took elements of various people and put them into it. But, that ... that could have been part of it, but I would say that would be a subconscious element to it. That's an interesting observation, I like that." --- Brian Herbert in a interview to Scott Brick.
  2. Daniel chuckled. "That would've been funny. They have such a hard time accepting that Face Dancers can be independent of them." "I don't see why. It's a natural consequence. They gave us the power to absorb the memories and experiences of other people. Gather enough of those and . . ." "It's personas we take, Marty." --- Chapterhouse: Dune, page 369
