The Grand Patriarch of the Jihad was an office in the hierarchy of the leadership of the League of Nobles. The Grand Patriarch was one of the main religious figureheads of the Butlerian Jihad, along with High Priestess Serena Butler although it is not known when exactly the title came into existence. The first Grand Patriarch was Iblis Ginjo, who acted as mouthpiece for Butler and the de facto leader of the League for many years, until Butler began to resume some of her responsibilities as Interim Viceroy of the League.
After Ginjo's death, the office of Grand Patriarch was filled by his widow, Camie Boro. Yorek Thurr wanted to take the throne but eventually Boro was succeeded by her descendants, until the office was left vacant by the death of Xander Boro-Ginjo.
